Housing Development at Zion
Updates and Resources
Affordable Housing and Homelessness are 2 challenges our community faces. With Hearthway Inc., Zion Lutheran Church is using our building to respond to these realities:
- Our 2nd Floor will become 9 permanent supportive housing units for individuals exiting homelessness.
- Our basement will become a Housing Resource Center (HRC), staffed during the daytime to help people get their basic needs met. The HRC will have showers, laundry, a kitchen, a place to lounge, places to meet with social service providers, and much more.
- Our first floor will be set aside for church and Common Room functions. The church also will retain some space in the basement for storage.
- The entrances to the apartments/HRC will be separate from the entrance to the church, and the building will be configured so that the church, the apartments, and the HRC are 3 separate, distinct spaces.
The project will invest in critical building upgrades, including a new flat roof, new windows, an elevator, basement dehumidification, upgraded security, efficient heating and cooling systems, and sprinklers throughout the building.
Zion is taking this opportunity to invest in our first floor space to improve gathering spaces for our ministries like music and children’s faith formation and achieve the congregation-identified priority of a bigger first floor kitchen.
